Service delivery protests and becoming a fan.

Salamu

So I took my next step into being 30 today. I joined a service delivery protest.

I've always wanted to you know. Ever since I went to the apartheid museum and saw what went on when I was a twinkle in my mothers eye. But i have either never been in the right place at the right time (ie: forced to attend) or I have never had the cajones to participate in one.

But today was different, I walked into mt office and get told by my editor that I must to to a town called Richmond to attend a service delivery protest. So i begrudgingly go and catch up with the protesters as they are on the move towards the city centre. The phlange know me by now and told me to pull in behind their escort.

Now bear in mind it is 32 degrees in the shade and the hubeed have a 3 km stretch before they get into town. There are some women protesters who were Toi Toing in high heels! I swear on my life! no jokes!

Now who in their right f##king minds do that? I mean please!

So there was a lot of dancing and a lot of shouting and I had a prime position behind the cops line so i felt safe having some serious looking individuals next to me with Beretta Pistola's and Riot Shields. But I had to go through the crowd to talk to the march organiser. needless to say when I asked one of the serious looking individuals with a Beretta Pistola to escort me to him he looked at me and said: F##k that shit.

So I had to mingle with the crowd. A big whitie screaming Amandla...Awetu with a bunch of skinny as brothers! Like f##k did I fit in...I stuck out like a sore thumb.

I was uneventful I must say, but an experience none the less.

What else did i want to talk about today...ah yes.

I was never a fan of Leonardo Di Caprio, in fact when my ex subjected me to Titanic I spent three hours waiting for the little shit to drown. Now it seems that every second movie on my hard drive has him in it.

Admittingly he has grown in stature since Blood diamond, and I think he was at his best in Shutter Island. WHAT A MOVIE! You haven't lived until you see it. The long and short of it is Di Caprio visits an island full of loony tunes and tries to uncover a murder/mystery, but it turns out he is the biggest looney tune of them all and he created a whole new world he was living in.

After that I watched Body of Lies where again he was very good. Despite myself, I am slowly becoming a fan.But it will take a while to clinch me. Maybe Inception will do it, haven't watched that yet.

And finally. ADELE COETZEE. Please people, make the effort to vote for her. She is an amazing person and perhaps an interview with her is in order. Ill draw up some questions and pose them to her. Lets see what she says.
